BHEL pays Rs 41-crore dividend to government: Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) has paid its highest ever dividend of Rs 41.4 crore at an enhanced rate of 25 per cent of the paid-up capital to the government for the financial year 1997-98. The dividend cheque was handed over to industry minister Sikander Bakht by company chairman and managing K G Ramachandran.

BSEL, Canadian College tie up: The Mumbai-based BSEL Information Systems has tied up with Sheridan College of Canada to venture into the software education arena. The company will set up authorised training centres across the country under the project. Canadian experts will be part of the visiting faculty, a company release said. BSEL, a 100 per cent export-oriented unit, is engaged in customised software development, system integration, training, consultancy and overseas placement of professionals.

Vidhan Mercantile sets up US subsidiary: Vidhan Mercantile Company Ltd, a software solution provider, has set up a subsidiary inthe US to service its clients in North America. The company plans to increase its business in US through this subsidiary. The company has recently launched indiashares.com, an Internet site giving complete information and guidance on the capital markets and special details on the Bombay Stock Exchange and the National Stock Exchange, a company release said. The site, on a subscription basis, provides educational and simulated game on-line trading modules with details of over 4,000 listed companies.

HLL plan: Hindustan Lever Ltd (HLL) plans to extend its `free dental check up' programme to all the major cities and the `oral hygiene programme' to 35,000 villages covering 20 crore people across the country. HLL marketing manager (oral care) Hemant Bakshi, Pepsodent's nationwide programme for providing `free dental check up, besides information on dental hygiene and advice on dental problems' has been launched in collaboration with the Indian Dental Association. A similar `school dental health andeducation' programme has been launched to reach out to students in government and municipal-run schools.

Wipro Infotech Internet-based services: Wipro Infotech Communication Services has launched Wipro IP Express, the Internet Protocol (IP) infrastructure for Internet-based application services. Wipro Communication Services has enhanced its network to support transfer control protocol/Internet protocol for Internet usage in India and in in the process of applying for an Internet Services Provider license.

Microsoft launches new software: Microsoft Corporation India has launched Microsoft SQL Server 7.0, the new enterprise database software that empowers businesses to turn information into results. The new database software has been launched simultaneously with over 30,000 customers and partners in 53 countries around the world. More than 300 Independent Software Vendors are demonstrating best-of-breed applications designed for SQL Server 7.0 and 13,000 Microsoft certified solution providerswill support immediate customer development and deployment projects.
