The deputy general manager of UTI, T K Majhi, said that apart from the fresh sales, the Trust was able to redeem instruments worth Rs 65 lakh during the day. Nearly 250 employees of UTI, housed in the second and third floors of the ill-fated Mackinnon Mackenzie building, were seen operating from a makeshift tent on the pavement of Fairlie Place here.

The UTI chairman, P S Subramanyam, who was in the city accompanied by UTI's executive director, A K Thakur, was busy looking for an alternative accommodation, as the two floors of the building had been razed.

The UTI chairman had discussions with RBI, LIC, and IDBI in this regard. The UTI official said that files from the back-up system had already been sent to Mumbai for processing.
