PSI Data Q3 net profit spurts to Rs 2 crore

PSI Data Systems Ltd has posted a 34 per cent growth in its third quarter revenue mopping up Rs 11 crore from operations, against Rs 7.9 crore in the corresponding period last year. Net profit stood at Rs 1.85 crore (Rs 0.20 crore) while the bottom line at the end of nine months ended Sept 30, 1998 was Rs 3.56 crore (Rs 1.2 crore).

Navneet Publications net rises:

Navneet Publications India Ltd has posted a 35 per cent rise in net profit during the accounting year ended September 30, 1998. The children's and educational books publishing company has clocked a net profit of Rs 17.30 crore (Rs 12.78 crore) during the period under review. Net sales stood at Rs 115.53 crore (Rs 111.25 crore) during the current accounting year. Gross profit after interest but before depreciation was Rs 27.01 crore (Rs 21.62 crore).

Wipro PCs get Microsoft stamp:

The Wipro Supergenius range of computers has received the PC 97 certification from Microsoft.The certification covers all its Intel processor platforms. PC 97 is a standard developed by Microsoft, Intel and other members of the PC 97 special interest group (SIG).

Ashima Syntex bags Supima licence:

The Ahmedabad-based Ashima Syntex Ltd, flagship of the Rs 400-crore integrated cotton textile Ashima group, has become the first company in India to get the Supima licence. Supima is licenced by `Supima Association of America' to the users of pima cotton produced in USA.

Hyundai Motor India order:

Hyundai Motor India has bagged an export order worth $300,000 of engine components from its parent company till December 1998. The Indian subsidiary, which started exports of engine components from its Chennai plant this month, is exporting 500 units each of engine cylinder blocks and cylinder heads as well as 1,200 units each of crank shaft and connecting rod.

British Airways plans more services:

British Airways (BA) plans to add more services between India and the UK from itspresent 16 flights a week, general manager south Asia Kevin Steele said. Speaking to reporters in Chennai, Steele said this could be done if an existing bilateral agreement between the UK and India was expanded. While the airways was also looking to expand to new destinations like Hyderabad and Bangalore, primarily it would prefer to enhance its services in the four metro cities.

Centre mulls Iisco update:

The centre was considering a proposal to modernise the Burnpur-based Indian Iron & Steel Company (Iisco) by utlising funds from the Steel Development Fund, according to union steel and mines minister Naveen Patnaik. Under the proposal Iisco will retain its status as a fully-owned subsidiary of the Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL), Pataik said. Patnaik said that various schemes for the revival of Iisco were considered but could not be finalised mainly due to fund constraints.

NUSI geneal secretary honoured:

General secretary of the National Union of Seafarers of India (NUSI), LeoBarnes, has received the Gold badge, the highest honour bestowed by the International Transport Workers' Federation (ITF). The worker federation represents six million members belonging to unions in various sectors of transport industries from 125 countries.

Naval dockyard's modernisation plan:

The Naval dockyard has evolved a master plan to keep pace with the modernisation and expansion of the Indian navy. According to Rear Admiral, P Jaitly, the plan includes adopting state-of-the art technologies, larger dry dock automated workshops, computerised and networked stores and offices. "The yard will continue to develop human resources and adopt innovative techniques to face challenges in future", he added. The yard celeberated its 263rd anniversart on Saturday.

EasyCall ties up with American Express:

EasyCall India, a joint venture between Mumbai based Natelco Group and Matrix Telecommunications of Australia has entered into a tieup with Amercian Express for a nationwide data capturingservice. The paging company will provide a single response number to customers seeking information about the recently launched Amercian Express credit card. EasyCall executive vice president MS Rehsi announced this at a launch of the companies new value added services inNew Delhi on Saturday.

Pagelink starts new service:

Consumers looking to avail of paging services can now do so, without buying a pager. Pagelink, a leading paging service provider has now started a "telepage" service, under which a subscriber is given a dummy pager number. All messages meant for him are stored at the Pagelink main station. The subscriber can retrieve all his messages by calling pager access number-9602. By using a password, the person is able to access his messages. This facility will be of immense use to people not wishing to invest in a pager right away and only spend Rs 75 for availing the service.

Rajdoot Paints stand on merger: pThe board of directors of Rajdoot Paints Ltd has authorised managingdirector Sunil Sharma to take appropriate steps in the matter concerning the merger of the company with Berger Paints India Ltd. The board of Rajdoot Paints in its meeting held on October 30, had decided to examine and explore the feasibility of the merger.
