GMDC net profit dips a shade in first half: Gujarat government's blue-chip company Gujarat Mineral Development Corporation, which went public around this time last year, has registered a marginal fall in sales during the six months ended September 30 to Rs 106.23 crore, from Rs 107.54 crore in the same period last year. The company's net profit has fallen slightly to Rs 37.11 crore from Rs 37.39 crore. Being basically a lignite-mining company, GMDC's sales during the second quarter ended September 30, which coincided with monsoon, remained comparatively low at Rs 43.40 crore (Rs 43.14 crore).

AEC posts Rs 10cr net in Q2: Ahmedabad Electricity Company, one of the few profit-making power generation and distribution companies, has posted a gross profit of Rs 27.80 crore, and net profit of Rs 9.80 crore, from sales of Rs 234.70 crore during the quarter ended September 30. Its gross profit during half yearly period ended September 30 was Rs 60.55 crore, and net profit Rs 24.55 crores from sales ofRs 469.88 crore. The company had recently jerked up the power tariffs. According to a statement, the results of the current half year are not comparable to the same period previous year owing to the forced outage of one power station of 110mw adversely affecting the profits.

Vikrant Tyres posts Rs 5cr net in Q2: Vikrant Tyres, a subsidiary of JK Industries Ltd, has posted a net profit of Rs 5.41 crore for the second quarter of the current fiscal. The turnover during the period was Rs 96 crore and operating profit Rs 10.59 crore. The profit before tax during the same period was Rs 6.04 crore and depreciation Rs 0.94 crore. The company's sales for the six-month period grew by 20 per cent to Rs 198 crore from Rs 164 crore in the same period the previous year.

Nav Bharat net falls in H1: Nav Bharat Ferro Alloys has earned a net profit of Rs 4.33 crore, compared with Rs 6.67 crore in the first six months of last year. The company's sales income is, however, 17 per cent higher this year at Rs86.44 crore, but so are its expenditure, interest and depreciation charges. The Hyderabad-based producer of ferro alloys, sugar and machines earned a gross profit of Rs 21.54 crore this year, which is 62 per cent higher than in the first six months of last year.

JK Dairy & Foods posts Rs 2cr losses in H1: JK Dairy & Foods has recorded a net loss of Rs 2.17 crore during the first half of 1998-99, against a net loss of Rs 2.38 crore during the corresponding period last year. The company has recorded a 51 per cent rise in its operating profit to Rs 1.17 crore (Rs 0.78 crore). The company expects to improve its performance during the ensuing flush season, said a release. JK Dairy and Foods attributed the decrease in net loss to its strategy to convert all its products into branded products.

GSFC net dips to Rs 40 cr: The Baroda-based Gujarat State Fertilisers & Chemicals (GSFC) registered a steep fall in its sales during six months ended September to Rs 989.89 crore from Rs 1128.66 crore in thecorresponding period last year. Its gross profit also plunged to Rs 85.27 crore from Rs 128.13 crores and net profit to Rs 39.81 crore from Rs 84.79 crore over the same periods. According to the statutory results declared on Saturday, the company attributed the slump to the loss of production owing to shutdown at its DAP plant at Sikka from June 9 to July 17 owing to cyclone.
