Precious metals move in narrow rannge; cotton reacts

Mumbai, Oct 29: Both the precious metals moved in a narrow range and closed on a steady note on the bullion market here today.

Standard gold remained unchanged at Rs 4,305 per 10 gm. Gold.22 carat ruled quiet at Rs 3,980 per 10 gm. Prices of gold biscuit (116.50 gm.) held at Rs 50,400 per piece. Demand was dull but limited supplies and steady overseas advices kept offerings restricted. In the global market gold ruled steady at $293.50/293.75 per ounce.

Silver.999 closed steady at Rs 7,550 per kg. In the ready section silver.916 fell by Rs 15 to Rs 7,400 per kg. In the global market silver ruled quiet at $5.04/5.05 per ounce. Arrivals of imported contraband silver in the city market was remained low as local prices were lower compared to import cost. Sentiment was steady at the close of the session.

G'nut oil down

Groundnut oil eased further on the oil, oilseeds market here today. Castorseed and its oil reacted in the ready delivery and prices remained unchanged in the forwardmarket.

Groundnut oil dropped from Rs 452 to Rs 433 per 10 kg on account of sluggish buying interest, higher new crop supplies followed by bearish trend in the producing centres. In Rajkot groundnut oil quoted lower at Rs 610/620 as against Rs 640 per 15 kg. Traders reported fresh inflow of more than one lakh bags of groundnut seed in the Gujarat region.

Imported palm oil edged down by Rs 2 to Rs 369 per 10 kg exclusive of tax on continued supplies at mumbai port. In the global market prices looked up at $705/707.50 per tonne for nearby delivery and long deliveries were available at $680/690 per tonne.

Castor oil slid by Rs 5 to Rs 430/442 per 10 kg on sluggish export demand. Castorseed ready closed Rs 24 lower at Rs 1962/1968 per quintal in sympathy.

In the futures section castorseed December delivery ruled steady at the reduced level of Rs 1641 per quintal amidst nominal trading.

In Ahmedabad December delivery quoted Rs 4 lower at Rs 1731 per quintal. In Gujarat region castorseed ready deliverydeclined to Rs 350/360 per 20 kg in the wake of higher supplies - 1500/2000 bags. Castor oil fell to Rs 405/410 per 10 kg. Hyderabad advices were discouraging.
