Foreign funds invited for rural GSM projects
Minister of state for communications Kabindra Purkayastha on Tuesday invited foreign investment proposals for the village global systems mobile phone project. The communications ministry, Department of Telecommunications and global systems mobile (GSM) operators are working together to finalise a detailed plan to provide modern telecommunication facilities for nearly 300,000 villages in the country.
Sinha joins chorus to stub out 100% foreign investment in cigarettes
Finance minister Yashwant Sinha has opposed the policy of allowing 100% foreign direct investment (FDI) in cigarettes. He has sought a review of the policy by the prime minister.
Fertiliser shortage likely to hit rabi crop output
The rabi foodgrain output this year is likely to fall short of the targeted 120 million tonnes by a margin of 10 million tonnes, say fertiliser industry experts who feel that the country has missed out on the opportunity provided by a good monsoon.
