Shell Australia Ltd has closed the solvents section of its Geelong refinery due to safety concerns, but the move will have no effect on other products produced from the plant, a Shell official said on Tuesday.Peter Jones, general manager manufacturing supply and trading, said concerns about the solvents plants were raised during a Work Cover audit which is continuing at the refinery.
Jones said the plant should be back in operation in a fewdays and in the meantime there would be no impact on oil product output.
"It has no effect on employment and no effect on fuel," he said. "It is only the solvents part that is affected."
