Abacus bags TRAI account: One of the most talked about and fiercely fought pitches, for a public relation account in recent times has gone Abacus' way. The account being the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai). Abacus, IPAN and Perfect Relations were shortlisted for the final round, in which Abacus was finally selected. Its recent acquisitions include S Kumars Synfabs, FProt-Microwworld and Onida Savak.

AMP India in JV with German firm: The Bangalore-based AMP India has entered into a joint venture with the Nurnberg-based Leonische Drahtwerke AG (LDW). The joint venture is for a new company in Pune called Automotive Wiring Systems Pvt Ltd (AWSPL) for manufacture of wiring systems. LDW will hold a 51 per cent stake in the venture and the balance will be with AMP. The products that will be manufactured include harnesses for European car manufacturers for their Indian as well as worldwide requirements, said a company release.

Vulcan Leasing to pay 16 per cent: TheBangalore-based Vulcan Leasing & Investments Ltd has reported a net profit of Rs 58.24 lakh for the year ending 1997-98. During the same period the company's deposit base touched Rs 10.88 crore and disbursements to Rs 13.30 crore. The board of directors of the company have declared a dividend of 16 per cent. According to a release the company is currently engaged in hire purchasing, leasing, safe deposit lockers, small savings etc.

Cabletron launches new SmartSwitch: Cabletron Systems has announced the availability of its SmartSwitch RoamAbout 802.11 standards-based wireless solution. Operating as simple and reliable as a wired Ethernet network, the solution provides enhanced support for a wide variety of mission critical applications. It is targeted at sectors like healthcare, finance and manufacture, says a company release.

Baccarose launches Talisman: The house of Baccarose has launched Talisman, a new fragrance by Balenciaga, in Bangalore. The new product is available in three referencesof 30 ml, 50 ml and 100 ml at exclusive Baccarose showrooms at Shopper's Stop, Littlewoods, Studio Italia, Kempfort and Sona's in Bangalore. It will also retail in exclusive shops in Mumbai, Delhi, Pune, Chennai, Indore, Baroda, Hyderabad and Ahmedabad, according to a press release.
