RANCHI, Oct 17: Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Ltd's diesel engine plant (DEP) at Ranchi is seeking foreign collaboration to manufacture 2x10mw capacity engines. The plant management has sent its proposal to 20 foreign companies.DEP general manager commodore SC Srivastava said the plant makes medium-speed diesel engine in the range of 1x3mw capacity in collaboration with Ulstein Bergan of Norway.
The plant, which has been in business for the last 28 years, earlier had a licence agreement with MAN of Germany to manufacture slow, medium & high speed engines where it achieved 70 per cent indigenisation.
Srivastava said the present licence agreement with Ulstein Bergen will expire in 1999 and therefore the plant is looking for fresh collaboration.
The plant supplies engines to a number of public and private sector enterprises in the country, Srivastava said. The plant has received Rs 45 crore worth of orders to make gas-based engines for the Gas Authority of India Ltd (Gail).
