Bangalore, Oct 16: The Travel Agents Association of India has conferred the Indian Airlines Trophy for Tourism Promotion on The Oberoi Group for its effort in promoting tourism during 1997-98.According to Oberoi group president Ravi Boothalingam the group has recently proposed the creation of a travel and tourism association, comprising members from different sectors of the tourism industry. In the last one year, the group has opened three new properties in Rajasthan.
The group was voted `Best Hotel Group' Asia in 1997 by the readers of Business Travel World.
Founded in 1934, the group operates in six countries with 32 properties including luxury Oberoi Hotels and Trident Hotels. The group is also engaged in flight catering, airport restaurants, travel and tour service, project management and corporate air charter, according to a release.
