Informix plans major expansion

P Sreevalsan Menon
Mumbai, Oct 11: Informix India is embarking on a major expansion, which will see a new wing being opened at its integrated development centre at Seepz in Mumbai. The company will also have a new managing director and a core team of executives in place soon. The company's previous managing director Kishore Taishete resigned recently and Muthusamy Gabriel, director of technical services, Asia/Pacific-based in Singapore is at present in charge of the company's affairs. The company is likely to go on a recruitment spree in the coming month.

According to Gabriel, the domestic data-warehousing market is poised to take a major leap in the coming year and Informix will work aggressively to bag more clients in the country. "We have idendified E-commerce and ERP as high-growth areas here, besides data warehousing. Among this, E-commerce will have an explosive growth in the next couple of years," he said.

The compnay recently took over Red Brick Systems of US at an estimated $35 million. Red Brick, orginallypromoted by Ralph Kimbel, an authority in data warehousing, was a force to reckon with in data warehousing field in the US.

"We intend to use Red Brick's strengths to the maximum use in India. Our customers will have the added advantage of Red Brick's datawarehousing consulting and R&D expertise. Also when combined with Informix's support services, our customers here can have the benefit of an integrated technology strength through a single vendor," Gabriel said.
