Central excise board effects mass transfer

MUMBAI, Sept 28: Soon after changes in the Central Board of Excise & Customs (CBEC), nationwide transfers of two chief commissioners and 23 commissioners of excise and customs was ordered on Monday.

The most promimnent of them includes the transfers of GS Tampi and BK Bakshi. Tampi has been brought back as chief commissioner of customs-Mumbai in place of Bakshi, who will now take over as director general, service tax. Tampi was holding the service tax portfolio when he was transferred out earlier from the posting where he has been brought back.

The two orders issued by the CBEC were on the cards ever since SD Mohile was brought back as the chairman of CBEC. Mohile was earlier shifted from CBEC to the Economic Intelligence Buearu (EIB) as director general (DG), and was replaced by DS Solanki.

The decision was, however, reverted two months back when the revenue department brought back Mohile to CBEC and shifted Solanki to take over as DG-EIB. With the change at the helm, nationwide transfers of officersat the level of commissioners was on the cards.

The order issued on Monday brought back SS Shekhon to Mumabi from Pune, where he was transfered to recently. Shekhon will take over as additional director general of inspection known as ICCE in Mumbai. Ajit Kumar, who was posted at Trichy as commissioner, Central Excise, will now take over as commissioner, central excise-Pune in Shekhon's place.

Moheb Ali, commissioner (imports) in Mumbai has been transfered to training the institute at Mumbai, Nacen, and will be replaced by YG Parande, who was commissioner of customs at Sahar airport. Parande has been replaced by PC Jha, who was additional director general at Anti Evasion in Mumbai.

Another significant change is in the office of the additional director general of the DRI. SD Khare now takes over as ADG-DRI in Mumbai in place of V Shridhar. Shridhar will now take over as commissioner, central excise (appeals) in Mumbai.

Along with Sridhar, two other commissioners have been brought in central excise(appeals) in Mumbai. They are SB Nagarkar and GK Pillai, who were holding charges as ADG-training and ADG-inspection in Mumbai respectively. Of the two, Pillai is being replaced by Shekhon.

Ramesh Ramchandra, who was commissioner of customs at Nhava Sheva, has been brought to central excise VI in Mumbai. He will repalce SS Bedi, who has been shifted to Nhava Sheva as customs commissioner. RC Verma, who was commissioner, central excise I in Mumbai, has been transfered to anti evasion in Mumbai.

Similarly, Chitra Saha, who was appeals commissioner of central excise in Mumbai, has been shifted to central excise (adjudiction). The other woman officer transfered is Sunipa Basu, who was central excise appeals commissioner in Calcutta and has now been posted to Calcutta (port) as customs commissioner.

Two other officers have been transfered in Calcutta. They are SD Majumdar, transfered to training from the post of ADG-DRI, Calcutta. He is replacing RK Das, who has now been posted as customs appealscommissioner in Calcutta. Rahul Goel, who was commissioner of central excise in Shillong, now takes over as ADG DRI Calcutta, in addition to holding charge of his current posting at Shillong.

AK Chhabra, who was customs appeals commissioner at Chennai, has now been shifted to Chennai (port). Similarly, B Nanda has been transfered to central excise Trichy from his posting as commissioner of appeals at central excise, Bangalore.

The central excise commissioner at Patna NKP Sinha replaces BR Mehra as adjudication commissioner of central excise in Delhi, who takes over from Sinha in Patna.
