Saral paves the way for more taxpayer-friendly steps
At last, after much wait and anxiety the easy alternative to filling the income tax returns has been introduced through the Saral form. The form which was declared in the budget by finance minister was only introduced after the last date of return was twice extended to October 31, 1998. The one-page Form No 2D termed for public as Saral is far from ending the trouble for the taxpayers, though.
Organic farming in tea gains momentum
Organic farming in tea is fast gaining ground in Darjeeling tea estates but creation of bio-mass happens to be a major problem. Says a leading organic tea producer, "It is a big task to generate 10 tonnes of farmyard manure or biomass which is the least requirement for a hectare of tea crop grown organically. Sustaining the biomass in the soil is also significant."
