Chamber urges bankers to gear up for euro

New Delhi, Sept 20: All local bankers and foreign exchange dealers should equip themselves well for handling the euro currency before its introduction on January 1, 1999, says a study by a leading industry chamber. Since, the euro will become an international reserve currency and would compete with the dollar as a convertible currency for settlement of international trade, imparting training to dealers becomes imperative, according to a note on "Euro currency - implications for Indian banks" prepared by the PHD Chambers of Commerce and Industry.Copyright © 1998 Indian Express Newspapers (Bombay) Ltd.
