CALCUTTA, Sept 19: Mcdowell celebrated the completion of its 100 years of existence with the launch of McDowell Centenary Whisky in Calcutta. This is a forward brand extension of the existing flagship brand McDowell's Whisky, which is ranked fifth among the world's top whisky brands.McDowell Centenary Whisky has been priced between the deluxe brands (around Rs 200) and the premium brands (around Rs 320). According to divisional vice-president A Malik, the price will be between Rs 240 and Rs 260 for a 750 ml bottle.
McDowell, which is from the UB Group stable of Vijay Mallya, sells around 11 million cases with a turnover of over Rs 800 crore. It controls 22 per cent of the domestic liquor market and has recorded a 27.74 per cent growth in sales.
According to managing director Vijay K Rekhi, the company is planning to relaunch McDowell's Soda. In addition to this, the company is planning to launch variants of the Black Dog 12-year-old whisky. These are likely to be Black Dog 8-year and 5-year olds.
