Disinvestment list may be expanded
Union finance minister Yashwant Sinha on Wednesday said that his ministry is looking into the possibility of expanding the list of public sector undertakings for disinvestment and strategic sale. Sinha added that other "innovations" relating to PSU disinvestment are also being looked at.
Centre to limit excise duty to 3 tiers, rectify custom anomalies
The BJP-led coalition government is working towards radically overhauling the indirect tax structure by limiting excise duties to just three slabs and correcting the customs duty anomalies to ensure that raw material is not subject to a higher duty than is leviable on intermediaries and finished goods.
TRAI moots hike in telecom services
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India has proposed a steep hike in rentals for both basic and cellular services while recommending a sharp reduction in ISD, STD and airtime charges. The across-the-board restructuring in telecom tariffs also includes increase in local call and paging charges.
