Mumbai, Sept 8: The Reserve Bank of India governor Bimal Jalan will call on finance minister Yashwant Sinha on Wednesday in Mumbai. The governor is likely to be accompanied by his team of three deputy governors. There is no specific agenda for the meeting between the governor and the finance minister, said sources in the central bank. But the meeting is likely to touch upon issues like the stability of the rupee, inflation, non-performing assets, infrastructure financing, capital market reforms and the progress of the task force set up for non-banking finance companies.
During his stay in the city, Sinha will also attend meetings hosted by the Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO) and the Maharashtra Chamber of Commerce and Industry. He is expected to meet the heads of Industrial Development Bank of India, Unit Trust of India, State Bank of India and ICICI on Thursday. The finance minister is also slated to meet revenue officials.
Bankers have been lobbying with the RBI and the financeministry to relax non-performing asset norms as the industry is facing a slowdown. However, the RBI is not likely to accept this suggestion, at least in this fiscal.
