Jamnagar, Sept 8: Twenty-five workers of Reliance Petroleum were arrested when they went on a rampage at the refinery complex on Monday in protest against the accidental death of a co-worker.
The workers, numbering around 2000, turned violent and ransacked the office, pelted stones and set a large number of vehicles afire after a contract labourer, Vinod Yadav, slipped from a ten-metre high overhead tank and succumbed to his injuries at the local Irwin hospital.
However, there is no disruption or damage in construction activity or to the site, a company spokesperson said.
Some anti-social elements living near the site took advantage of the situation and with some workers tried to set fire to 11 vehicles at the site. During the commotion there was no damage to life and property as the police and security brought the situation under control, the spokesperson added. Police said three companies of SRP jawans from Jamnagar have been deployed in the area. The situation was tense but under control.
