Bullion spurts on festival demand; g'nut oil recovers

Mumbai, Sept 4: Bullish trend continued in the bullion market here today.Standard gold recovered by Rs 55 to Rs 4,160 per 10 gm. Gold .22 carat rose by Rs 50 to Rs 3,850 per 10 gm. Prices of gold biscuit (116.50 gm.) hardened by Rs 700 to Rs 48,900 per piece. Continued festival buying pushed gold prices upward while eased supplies and firm overseas advices kept offerings limited, dealers said. In the global market gold climbed from $279.50 to $285.50 per ounce.

Silver .999 shot up by Rs 140 to Rs 7,470 per kg. In the ready section silver .916 placed Rs 140 higher at Rs 7,350 per kg in sympathy. Industrial and seasonal buying improved at the reduced level while firm overseas and Delhi advices influenced the rally. In the global market the white metal rose from $4.81 to $4.99 per ounce.

G'nut oil recovers

Groundnut oil recovered at the reduced level on the oil,oilseeds market here today. Castorseed and its oil on the other hand extended gains owing to thin nearby supplies coupled with steadycovering by millers and shippers.

Groundnut oil moved up by Rs 5 to Rs 570 per 10 kg on fresh festival enquiries followed by poor supplies and firm upcountry advices. In Rajkot it was placed higher by Rs 20/25 to Rs 850/860 per 15 kg. Imported palm oil was up by Rs 3 to Rs 375 per 10 kg exclusive of tax on fresh bull interest coupled with firm overseas advices. In the global market palm oil quoted at Rs 725 per tonne.

Castor oil edged up by Rs 2 to Rs 547/559 per 10 kg. Castorseed ready gained by Rs 10 to Rs 2524/2530 per quintal in absence of offerings.

In the futures section castorseed December delivery climbed from Rs 1928 to Rs 1956 before settling at Rs 1,931 per quintal. Maturing September delivery remained absent from trading.

In Gujarat region castorseed ready delivery initially rose to Rs 510 but reacted thereafter to Rs 500 per 20 kg. Castor oil opened firm at Rs 545 but closed lower at Rs 525/530 per 10 kg.

Sugar quiet

A quiet trend prevailed on the sugar market on thindeals.

M-30 were placed at Rs 1435-1505 and S-30 at Rs 1400-1450 a quintal ex-godown. Ex-octroi checkpost, M-30 found sellers at Rs 1410-1425 and S-30 at Rs 1380-1395.

In tenders, M-30 were indicated at Rs 1365-1370 and S-30 at Rs 1350-1360 in Kolhapur line.

Trading in imported sugar remained suspended due to ongoing checking by the sales tax department.

Grains subdued

A dull-to-subdued condition prevailed on the grains market.

Wheat milling were placed at Rs 655-665 a quintal. Saurashtra Lokvan wheat were on offer at Rs 765-825 and north Gujarat at Rs 725-775. MP 147 and Sarbati were traded at Rs 750-850 and at Rs 900-1300 respectively.

Rice Gujarat-17 were traded at Rs 1500-1650.

Among pulses, urad Myanmar price shed Rs 25 at Rs 1050. Australian gram were on offer at Rs 1250-1275. Moong deshi average were placed at Rs 1350-1400 and superior at Rs 1600-1700 ex-producing centres. Tur Myanmar 1998 and 1997 were static at Rs 1850 and at Rs 1750 respectively.

Cotton ends lower

Aweak trend was in evidence on the cotton market following increased offerings due to proximity of the marketing of new crop.

Losing Rs 100 to 150 a candy V-797 ruled at Rs 15,400-15,700, Morbi wagad at Rs 14,900-15,000 and kala ginned at Rs 14,300-14,400 spot.

In Punjab zone ready Bengal deshi at Rs 1600-1615 a maund shed Rs 20. J-34 saw-ginned good average ruled at Rs 1800-1825 and cart-selected at Rs 1920-2000.

In forward also the price fell by Rs 25 to 30. Bengal deshi October were placed in the range of Rs 1320-1340 and November at Rs 1270-1300. J-34 saw ginned good average Haryana October dipped to Rs 1760-1765 and November to Rs 1735-1740. Cart-selected ruled at Rs 1795-1805 November. September Bengal deshi roller-ginned Rajasthan were placed at Rs 1440-1450 and Haryana at Rs 1410-1415.

Yarn listless

In listless trading prices ruled quietly steady on the yarn market.

Polyester yarn grey first quality of medium sized units 80dn rotoset ruled at Rs 79-80, micro rotoset at Rs 100, weftat Rs 76-77 and warp at Rs 86-87 a kg. 150dn weft were placed at Rs 61.

Delhi

About 25-50 cartons of new walnut kernel were reported to have arrived from Kashmir which was traded at Rs 160 a kg. On weak imported kishmish prices, yellow kishmish of Maharashtra tumbled down by Rs 200 at Rs 3600 per 40 kgs.
