Mumbai, Sept 4: The Ambassador of Chile, Benjamin Goncho, today said that his country is keen to set up joint ventures in the areas of textiles, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, food precessing and auto components.At a meeting organised by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (Ficci), he said that with the adoption of free market policies, the Chilean economy has changed rapidly with import tariffs being reduced to 15 per cent by 1988.
"During 16 years of dictatorship from 1973-89, the country had fallen into tremendous economic difficulties. In 1985, a new scheme of popular capitalism was promoted wherein investors were given the chance to buy shares in instalments," said Goncho.
Speaking at the meeting, the high commissioner of Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, Ousman Ali also urged for investment in his country. According to him, Trinidad & Tobago is promoting agro-based and food processing industries, projects related to natural gas, chemical industries, petrochemicals and steelindustries.
