World Briefing

Kia Asia Motors put up second tender: South Korea's financially troubled Kia Motors Corp and sister firm Asia Motors Co on Friday sent General Motors Corp and four previous bidders information on a second tender, a statement from Kia said. Bidders must submit applications by September 21 and the result will be announced on September 28, it said. First efforts to sell off troubled Kia and Asia Motors failed earlier this week as the bidders -- Hyundai Motor Co, Daewoo Motor Co, Samsung Motors Inc and US-based Ford Motor Co -- demanded a writeoff of some of Kia's debt. GM, which had submitted a letter of intent to take part in the first auction, in the end decided not to submit a bid.
