Centre revises 41 drug formulation packs' prices
The government has increased the prices of 33 drug formulations ranging from 0.16% to 25.44% following changes in the statutory duties in the Finance Bill, 1998. On the other hand, four drug formualtions would become cheaper, and an equal number has been added to the list of drugs whose prices have been fixed by the National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA).
Orissa drops 12% free power claim as Centre threatens to scap Talcher-II proj
The Centre's threat to scrap the Rs 7000 crore Talcher-II thermal power project has forced the Orissa government to give up its claim for 12% free electricity. Earlier, the state government had insisted on a 12% free power share from the 2000 mw Talcher-II and the 4000 mw Hirma project.
Economy to show "definite upturn" by year-end: FM
Finance minister Yashwant Sinha expects recessionary trends to start tapering off by this month-end and voiced hope that there would be a "definite upturn" in the economy by the year-end. Sinha said the strategy to reverse recessionary trends was to stimulate demand by increasing government spending in public and private sector especially in areas of agriculture, rural development and infrastructure.
