Bajaj Auto two-wheeler sales rise 19%: Bajaj Auto Ltd has recorded a 19.1 per cent growth in the two-wheeler sales during the first four months of this fiscal. During April-July 1998, the company's scooter sales jumped 17 per cent to 2,78,333 units, as compared with 2,37,932 vehicles sold during the same period last year. According to the company, this is substantially higher than the 11.7 per cent growth recorded by the scooter segment during the same period. During the period, Bajaj's motorcycle sales jumped 52 per cent to 53,733 units, up from 35,333 motorcycles sold during the same period last year. Sales of Sunny Zip grew 44 per cent during the period to 19,380 units and the Bajaj M80 sales recorded a 11.2 per cent increase to more than 14,000.
Universal Petro-Chemicals product: Universal Petro-Chemicals Ltd (UPCL) under a distribution agreement with Mobil Chemicals Products International has launched Mobilad C-235, a multifunctional additive package for petrol, in the country.According to the company, the additive is ideal for cleaning of carburettors, port fuel injectors and intake valves of all categories of indigenously manufactured and imported cars.
Boshu Technics launches new software: Boshu Technics Corporation has launched the 32-bit version of its enterprise wide document imaging and management software, DigiOffice 2000. According to the company, this windows-based software allows users to store documents digitally, the same way as is done in a physical form. It also allows search queries based on indexes, key words and full text. Designed for enterprises, the software can allow users to share documents and it can also restrict access to certain specified documents.
Power Grid pay dividend to government: The Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL) chairman and managing director RP Singh on Wednesday handed over a cheque of Rs 20-crore as dividend for 1997-98 to union power minister PR Kumaramangalam. Power Grid at present operates approximately31,000 circuit km of transmission lines, that carries about 18,000mw of the total power in the country. The company stands on an gross asset base of Rs 8,000 crore supported by Rs 3,037 crore of paid up capital. Its turnover rose from Rs 1,058 crore in 1996-97 to Rs 1,434.68 crore in 1997-98. Profits stood at Rs 337.16 crore.
Air France opens office in Gurgaon: A new Air France office was inaugurated on Tuesday at the DLF Qutab Plaza, Gurgaon, by company general manager for India, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Maldives and Sri Lanka Gerard Petit. Air France is the first international airline to open an office in Gurgaon.
Kalyani Brakes new plant: Kalyani Brakes Ltd's new Chakan plant was inaugurated by Nabco Ltd president Shigeru Oda on Wednesday. Kalyani Brakes, an equal joint venture between Kalyani Steels Ltd, Nabco of Japan and Robert Bosch, manufactures a variety of air and hydraulic brake equipment for domestic vehicle manufacturers. The plant is based on the cellular manufacturingconcept and each employee mans between five to seven machines.
Whirlpool of India to conduct lecture series: Whirlpool of India has entered into an agreement with the Delhi-based Faculty of Management Studies to conduct the `Whirlpool series of lectures.' These lectures will comprise topics relating to sales and distribution, brand management, after sales service and advertising. Whirlpool India's senior management personnel, who hold function responsibility, will conduct these lectures. The inaugural lecture will be delivered by company vice-president (sales & service) Ravi Jain.
CII meet: The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and the Indian Institute of Technology of Delhi (IIT-D) will jointly organise a Technomeet between Industry and R&D Institutes at Ahmedabad on September 10 and September 11 to "help R&D institutes earn their own revenue through commercialisation and make research relevant to the needs of particularly small, medium and emerging corporates.
