TRAI asks Centre to specify mediation powers
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has directed the Union government to specify and submit to it the scope and powers of the regulatory authority in dispute settlement. The three member TRAI bench while directing the government to spell out as to what was left of TRAI's jurisdiction after the recent HC judgment and asked DoT to make its position clear in an affidavit.
Centre asked to set up stabilisation fund to provide loan for agro exporters
The Maharashtra government has appealed to the Centre to set up a stabilisation fund in the ministry of agriculture to provide short-term loan to agro industries especially in the wake of fluctuations in the world price in terms of cost of export material and the rate of foreign currency. The government has also requested to declare a package of incentives for agro exporters, not to levy income-tax for at least five years on agro industries, to exempt import cess of 0.5% to 2% imposed on horticulture produce and to expedite the implementation of cargo complex at Sahar airport with the help of Apeda.
Maharashtra power regulatory body to be in place by Sept
Maharashtra will be the first state to have the State Electricity Regulatory Commission (SERC) in place by next month. The move follows the finalisation of the guidelines laid down by the Electricity Regulatory Commission Act, 1998 which paved way for states to establish such a body.
