New Delhi, Aug 14: The Centre will soon come out with a package for setting up 1000mw mega power projects in the public and private sector, finance minister Yashwant Sinha said on Friday."Details are being worked out by a group of ministers and we will soon forward it for cabinet approval," Sinha told reporters after signing the counter guarantee for the 250mw Neyveli power project in Tamil Nadu.
The government was also reviewing the 40 per cent cap on raising resources domestically by independent power producers (IPPS) power minister PR Kumaramangalam said.
Refusing to divulge details, he said, the matter has to be placed before the cabinet after a group of ministers reviewed it.
On the issue of escrow account for IPPS, Kumaramangalam said the government's view on the issue was positive and all these would be part of the package to be announced next month.
Sinha said the government had, in five months, achieved what the previous governments could not do in five years. He indicate that thegovernment was stepping up power generation substantially as part of its plans to remove infrastructure bottlenecks.
