Asian flu, political uncertainty infect markets afresh
The Asian market crisis dragged the Skindia GDR Index to an all-time low of 561.90 points during mid-session on Tuesday. GDR prices also crashed on panic-selling fuelled by uncertainty on the domestic political front. Stock markets across Asia fell by 1% to 3.5% on an average on worries of a recession in Japan and fears over the devaluation of the Chinese yuan.

Centre asks state-run units to issue bonds against SEB outstandings
The government has asked central public sector undertakings (CPSUs) to issue bonds against their huge outstandings stuck with the state electricity boards (SEBs). The government has decided to extend guarantees to these bonds.

HPCL open to talks with Shell, Aramco on downstream venture
Hindustan Petroleum Corporation (HPCL) is believed to have intimated the ministry of petroleum and natural gas that it is open to the idea of holding talks with Shell and Saudi Aramco for the proposed mega downstream venture in India. The two multinationals have stated that they are willing to join hands in a 25:25 partnership while the balance 50% would be held by an Indian refining company.

Williamson Magor puts plan to buy international brands on hold
Williamson Magor, the holding company of the BM Khaitan group of companies, has put its plan to buy international brands for trading in areas other than tea and batteries on hold owing to the rupee depreciation.
