Committee grills SEBI, NSE, BSE officials
Several members of the parliamentary standing committee on finance have sought to know the role of Harshad Mehta in the recent price rise in select securities which ultimately led to the payment crisis at BSE. The top brass of SEBI, NSE and BSE were grilled on several issues pertaining to the development of the markets and the recent turbulence witnessed.

Crisil downgrades Tata Steel debt plans to double-A-plus
The Credit Rating Information Services of India Ltd (Crisil) on Monday downgraded the outstanding ratings of the non-convertible debenture and bond programmes of Tata Iron and Steel Company Ltd (Tisco) to double-A-plus (AA+) from triple-A (AAA). The F-triple-A (FAAA) rating assigned to the fixed deposit programme has been reaffirmed.

Double taxation exemptions can't be withdrawn: tribunal
In a landmark judgement, the Income-Tax Appellate Tribunal has held that the central government cannot withdraw from the tax payer exemptions granted under a double taxation avoidance treaty with another country.

Voltas shareholders okay chemicals unit sale to Rallis India
Shareholders of Voltas Ltd, the ailing Tata group company, on Monday approved the sale of its loss-making chemicals division to Rallis India. Chairman AH Tobaccowala said that the funds generated will be largely deployed for repayment of the term loans and working capital borrowings.
