Eveready net profit doubles to Rs 12.12 crore in first quarter

Calcutta, July 24: Eveready, the flagship company of the Williamson Magor group, has posted a growth of nearly 50 per cent in its net profits for the first quarter of the current fiscal at Rs 12.12 crore against Rs 8.08 crore recorded in the corresponding period of 1997-98. The operating profit of the battery and tea major stood at Rs 18.64 crore (Rs 14.29 crore) for the period ended June 30, 1998. The company recorded a sales turnover of Rs 165.78 crore in the first three months of the current year compared to Rs 128.24 crore in the corresponding period of the last fiscal. The results were recorded at the company's board meeting held in Calcutta onFriday.

George Williamson net leapfrogs 400%: George Williamson (Assam) has posted an over 400 per cent growth in net profit for the first quarter of the current fiscal at Rs 6.38 crore against Rs 1.26 crore recorded in the corresponding period of the previous year. The gross profit stood at Rs 7.81 crore compared to Rs 2.61 crore in 1997-98. The companyrecorded a 29 per cent growth in its sales turnover at Rs 37.69 crore in the first three months of 1998-99 (Rs 29.12 crore).

Bishnauth Tea net at Rs 8.11cr: Bishnauth Tea, has posted a net profit of Rs 8.11 crore in the first quarter of 1998-99. This was a healthy growth compared to a negative net profit of Rs 64 crore in the corresponding period in the last fiscal. The gross profit and net sales in the first three months of 1998-99 stood at Rs 9.30 crore and Rs 33.31 crore respectively. The company's other income at Rs 4.90 in Q1 1998 included Rs 4.70 crore on account of sale of investments.

Williamson Magor posts Rs 1.08 cr net: Williamson Magor, the holding company of the BM Khaitan group of companies, registered a net profit of Rs 1.08 crore in the first quarter of the current fiscal. It recorded a negative profit of Rs 1.63 crore over the corresponding period in the previous year. The present quarter recorded a gross profit of Rs 1.15 crore compared to a negative gross profit of Rs 1.56crore in the corresponding period last fiscal. Income from operations stood at Rs 9.93 crore against Rs 6.61 crore in the first three months of 1997-98. This income includes profits of Rs 4.5 crore on account of sale of investments.

Jay Shree Tea net profit at Rs 6.67cr: Jay Shree Tea & Industries has posted a net profit of Rs 6.67 crore in the first quarter of the present fiscal. The operating profit for the same period stood at Rs 10.28 crore. The BK Birla tea company recorded a sales turnover of Rs 46.35 crore in the first three months of 1998-99. The annualised earnings per share (EPS) stood at Rs 44.
