14 banks to aid SBI hawk resurgent bonds
Ten foreign and four public-sector banks have bagged the mandate to join the State Bank of India and its associate banks in selling Resurgent India Bonds (RIBs) to non-resident Indians and overseas corporate bodies. The issue will be launched on August 5, and State Bank plans to present a $2-billion cheque -- the proceeds of the RIB—to the centre on August 15, the Independence Day.

Centre decides to blow the whistle on British Airways, Air India impasse
The civil aviation ministry has informed officials of the British government that negotiations for a new air bilateral pact between India and Britain have to wait till the two airlines patch up their differences over an inter-airline agreement. The development comes close on the heels of an intensified war of words between British Airways and Air India.

Finance ministry likely to opt for two executive directors in state-run banks
The finance ministry is likely to opt for appointing two executive directors (EDs) at public-sector banks instead of one. The issue was discussed threadbare at the Appointments Board's meeting in Delhi on Saturday.

ICI to reap windfall from Nalco, Zeneca stake sale
ICI India, the paints, chemicals and explosives major, is set to gain from the sale of its 49% in Zeneca ICI Agrochemicals and 40% in Nalco Chemicals India. Though the sale in both the companies were effected during 1997-98, the proceeds from the sale were shown as liabilities since ICI had sold its shares to foreign companies as it requires the premission of the Foreign Investment Promotion Board.
