Cement industry posts sluggish growth in Q1
The cement industry has witnessed sluggish growth in the first quarter as major cement producers, in an effort to shore up bottomlines, consciously cut down production to improve price realisations. Production at 19.92 million tonnes was barely 5% higher than first quarter output last year.
Centre to unveil action plan on agriculture
The Planning Commission is busy preparing the action plan for agriculture in consultation with the union agriculture ministry which is slated to launch a new agriculture policy within a fortnight. The plan is likely to suggest the implementation part of the new policy aiming at doubling foodgrains production within next 10 years as stated in the National Agenda for Governance.
Severity of sanctions gradually diluting -- Bakht
The government has said that the severity of the economic sanctions imposed against India after its nuclear tests is "gradually waning", and it would not have much impact on industrial sector. He said several US-based companies were trying to find new alternatives for financing their projects in India.
