New Delhi, July 13: BiTV and Enadu have have sought government approval for availing the uplinking facility, which will be offered by Videsh Sanchar Nigam Ltd (VSNL).Government sources said that the two channels have approached the union information and broadcasting ministry for clearing the decks for them to uplink from the country.
The union minister of information and broadcasting Sushma Swaraj had earlier said that ministry would be responsible for getting a single window clearance for the Indian-owned broadcasters wishing to uplink from the country.
The I&B minister had also said that ministry would also arrange for the micro-wave link between the uplinking centres and the places they wish to uplink from.The ministry would also be responsible for getting the other clearances from relevant ministries such as, ministry of defence, home and the department of communication.
Once the applications are cleared by the these ministries they will be allotted frequencies by the wireless advisor. Thefrequencies would be allotted for a period of one year, the ministry had earlier said .Significantly, the information and broadcasting ministry is also believed to be in favour of opening up of uplinking facilities for the foreign satellite channels operating in the country.
