Revenue dept staff plan indefinite stir from July 21

Manju Menon
MUMBAI, July 13: Around 1.5 lakh employees of the revenue department including income-tax, central excise and customs are planning to go on an indefinite strike from July 21. The stir has been called by the Coordinating Committee of Federations (CCF) in the department of revenue. The employees and the officers have been demanding hike in their pay-scale at par with their counterparts in other public-sector units.

According to the federation, the Fifth Pay Commission has singled out the three revenue departments by refusing to hike their pay-scales from Rs 8,000 to Rs 13,000. The commission has shot down the proposal of the unions stating that they do not deserve the hike as they already have a "hidden" income (read corruption), said a member of the Income-Tax Employees Federation, Mumbai circle.
