Leading organiser of trade fairs opens shop in India
To meet the growing needs of Indian exporters for participation in German trade fairs, Messe Frankfurt, the world's leading trade fair organiser, has set up its sixth overseas subsidiary which will conduct operations here and in Mumbai. The trade fair group with its international operations had staged a total of 55 events in 1997 which were attended by 47,000 exhibitors and 2.44 million visitors.
Clinton promotes economic ties at China trip
US president Bill Clinton on Friday wrapped up a nine-day trip to China, describing it as a "very productive" mission designed to defuse regional military tensions while expanding US trade with Asia. Clinton said that it had been a very productive trip for the people of the United States and the people of China.
Hong Kong to move to new airport
Hong Kong moves into its sleek new international airport in a military-style overnight operation on Sunday despite Asia's financial crisis and the weatherman's forecast of heavy rains. Some 1,000 vehicles, 70 barges and 30 aircraft will make the move, starting on Sunday evening, from the city's old Kai Tak airport to the new US$20-billion airport at Chek Lap Kok, off Lantau island.
