European Union seeks to strengthen trade, industrial relations with India
The European Union (EU), which sees tremendous potential for trade and investment in India, is determined to increase relations between the two, according to the European Commission's (EC) first secretary (eco and commercial) in India Hieno Marius.

United Phosphorus plans to merge Agrodan with UK subsidiary
United Phosphorus Ltd (UPL) plans to merge Agrodan, the recently acquired Danish pesticide formulation unit, with its UK-based subsidiary United Phosphorus Ltd UK. The amalgamation is aimed at achieving higher operational efficiencies to consolidate manufacturing operations in the UK unit.

Tamil Nadu cement units to shut shop six days a month as cartel ups prices
Cement manufacturers in Tamil Nadu, who were till recently avoiding shutdown in production, have finally decided to implement it. Cement plants in the state would stop production for six day in a month. The cement manufacturers in the south perfectly are enjoying the fruits of cartelisation, having pushed up cement prices from around Rs 140 per bag to Rs 165 per bag in just 40 days, are finding it difficult to restrain themselves.

Coca-Cola India's H1 sales up 31%
Coca-Cola India has achieved a growth of 31% in sales volume in the first half of 1998. With this growth in volumes in January-June, Coke expects to end the current year with an overall growth of 25%. This is in sharp contrast to the nominal 5% growth that Coke recorded in India in 1997.
