Spices Board chalks out plan to boost cultivation of vanilla
The Spices Board has planned to give a major boost to vanilla production in the country in the ninth plan. The schemes drawn up would expand the area under cultivation by about 212 hectares in five years.
ECC Construction to submit report on diamond bourse
After years of dithering and dilly-dallying, Bharat Diamond Bourse (BDB) has appointed ECC Construction Group of the Larsen & Toubro as its new project review consultant (PRC). ECC is expected to submit its report by end of August 1998. Conceived in late '80s, the BDB is a multi-crore project for diamond traders and was originally scheduled for completion by 1996 end at a cost of about Rs 600 crore.
Bourse issues guidelines on coffee beans quality
Coffee Futures Exchange of India Ltd (Cofei) has issued a set of guidelines in its bid to maintain the quality of coffee beans entering the market through the bourse. As per the specifications, which will be applicable for both the growers and curers, a minimum of 90% by weight of the washed arabica (plantation A) shall stand on a sieve with round holes of 6.65 mm and a maximum of 1.5% by weight of the coffee may pass through a sieve with round holes of 6 mm.
