Reliance bags award for investor relationsReliance Industries has been adjudged the runner-up in the investor relations category from among emerging market countries by Investor Relations Magazine of the UK. The award, given in association with the Financial Times, was announced at a function held in London on June 25, 1998.

The awards are decided by polling the views of the financial community. Among the other companies to receive investor relations awards this year are Coke, British Petroleum and Intel. According to a company press release, Reliance runs an active investor relations programme out of its Mumbai and London offices to "keep investors and analysts on a global basis regularly updated about the latest developments relating to the company."

L&T is largest cement producer: L&T has emerged as the single largest cement producing company in the country with the commissioning of the first phase of the four million tonne capacity unit at Tadapatri in Andhra Pradesh, according to MD andCEO SD Kulkarni. He said the unit would produce 10.65 million tonnes of cement annually, the largest by a single company. Currently, the company was executing a Rs 300-crore order for the public sector Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd at Visakhapatnam.

PCL alleges malafide intentions in rejection of bid: The state-owned Punjab Communications has filed a special leave petition in the Supreme Court alleging `malafide' intentions on the part of the government in rejection of its bid for installing 36,000 rural telephones in eastern UP. DoT had cancelled the bid for the rural telephony project, which was to be financed through a $113 million soft loan from the Asian Development Bank in December 1997, saying none of the 14 bids received were `substantially compliant' with the tender norms.

Metamor projects $8m growth: Metamor Worldwide Inc has projected an $8 million growth in revenue during 1998 following the acquisition of Microcrafts Inc, the 11 IT solutions business company to be taken byMetamor. Metamor has, during the first quarter of 1998, recorded a 78 per cent growth in turnover touching $182.8 million, a release said.

Water disinfection: New vistas in the recycling of used water have opened up with the recent completion of India s first ultra-violet radiation technology-based sewage disinfection treatment plant by BHEL. Large scale application of this technology will benefit regions facing water scarcity in future, BHEL says
