Escorts net up a tad at Rs 130 crore
Escorts has recorded a marginal increase in net profit to Rs 129.84 crore and a 15.7% growth in sales to Rs 1275.58 crore for the year ended March 31, 1998. Escorts sales stood at Rs 1102.35 crore for the corresponding period the previous year.

N-tests have instilled confidence -- Kalam
The defence minister and director of Defence Research and Development Organisation APJ Abdul Kalam have said that the nuclear tests at Pokharan on May 11 and 13 have instilled confidence among Indians, and proved that our manpower and human capital can achieve anything under the sun. Kalam called for a mission to make the country a developed nation within the next 10 years.

Carryforward rates stabilise at 12%
Carryforward rates on the Bombay Stock Exchange stabilised at 12% annualised for a reduced outstanding position of Rs 524.37 crore. The outstanding positions on the BSE has taken a severe beating in the context of the Securities and Exchange Board of India's (Sebi) measures to curb short-sales. The outstanding position fell by 18.5% to register a low of Rs 524.37 crore against the previous week's level of Rs 643.08 crore.
