GIC Group to help Maharashta seek Rs 5,000 crore investment

NEW DELHI, June 26: US-Based GIC Group will assist the Maharashtra government to seek domestic and foreign investment worth Rs 5,000 crore in agri-industry, horticulture, processing and post harvest management. The GIC Group, involved in investment and trade consultancy, has decided to co-sponsor the Maharashtra government's three-day global convection and exhibition `Agro-Advantage Maharashtra', beginning from November 6.Rajesh Srivastava, GIC Group director-Asia Operations, told The Financial Express on Friday that it has already identified projects such as integrated port facility near Mumbai, mega or super market complexes for agro products, integrated poultry project, meat processing project, floriculture and revival of existing loss-making and sick government agencies. He said the integrated port facility will have agro produce handling, cold storage, grading, sorting and packaging facilities while the mega market will be developed initially near Mumbai to market agro products, meat andother related products. Srivastava said though Maharashtra has got poultries in the cooperative sector, they house hatcheries. An integrated poultry project will comprise hatcheries, breeding, feed mill and poultry projects, he informed and added that such a project will be located in the western Maharashtra known for successful implementation of cooperative movement.
