Punjab Tractors net up 72%
UNI
MUMBAI, June 21: Punjab Tractors has reported a record net earnings of Rs 96.6 crore for the fiscal year ended on March 31, 1998. This represents an earning of Rs 47.71 per share, which climbed 72 per cent over 1996-97's earnings of Rs 27.80 per share. The board has recommended a 56 per cent enhancement in dividend to 125 per cent, from 80 last year.Vice-chairman and managing director Yash Mahajan said the higher profit was a result of another solid sales performance from Swaraj Tractors - PTL's principal product line - which grew 22.4 per cent over 1996-97 to reach 40,425 tractors. In comparison, the industry grew 13.3 per cent for an aggregate volume of 2,50,400 . According to a release, Swaraj's better-then-market growth in tractor sales helped it gain share in every segment, and generally in all states.
