Showcase power projects based on bilateral pacts asked to float tenders
Showcase power projects to be set up in the country based on bilateral agreements will now come under the purview of competitive bidding. In a communique to representatives of these proposals, the Union power ministry said that the plans for these large-capacity showcase power projects would need to be submitted through a competitive route. This has been done to create greater bargaining power for the Centre in evaluating the project cost.
Defence labs to be opened for private sector
The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has decided to open some of its laboratories to the private sector. At a high-level meeting between the Union defence ministry and the CII on Thursday, it was decided that six task forces for partnership in research, production and marketing of military equipment will be set up.
Maharashtra seeks expansion of optical-fibre network by DoT
The Maharashtra government on Thursday stressed the need for expanding the optical-fibre network (OFN) by the department of telecommunications (DoT) to cover towns with a population of one lakh and above in the state. At present, OFN has been laid along the five national highways starting from Mumbai and going to Nagpur, Nashik, Solapur, Pune and Ratnagiri.
