CESC offers installment plan for recovery of fuel surcharge

Our Corporate Bureau
CALCUTTA, May 19: Cesc Ltd, the RPG group power utility, has offered an easy installment plan for recovering the fuel surcharge arrears. It will collect the money over a period of nine months, instead of seven, as suggested by the state government, a company spokesman said. Accepting the Bose Committee report the state power department, in a letter dated April 24, 1998, told CESC that the final fuel surcharge should be Rs 24.35 paise per unit for 1993-94, 29.53 paise for 1994-95 and 33.62 paise for 1995-96, thus making the recoverable amounts 4.79, 6.19 and 10.62 paise per unit, respectively.

CESC will have to refund 0.85 paise per unit on the 1992-93 units. It has now decided to refund this money to the consumers in one installment in May 1998. It will recover the 1995-96 arrears from the consumers in five monthly installments beginning May 1998 account and ending in September 1998. Fuel surcharge arrears for 1993-94 and 1994-95 will be recovered in four monthly installments from October 1998 onwards.Giving further details, the spokesman said that for domestic consumers the impact in May would be marginal.
