  Coimbatore burns as bomb blasts kill 32; flight delay saves Advani
At least 32 people have been killed and around 100 injured as over nine key areas of Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu were rocked by a serial bombing on Saturday evening. The bombings took place in a space of one hour, between 3.30 p.m. and 4.30 p.m. The Tamil Nadu government has banned two Islamic fundamentalist organisations and brought in the army into Coimbatore following the blasts.

Battered by the relentless media blitz charging over their economic slip-ups, some countries in Southeast Asia are fighting back. An avalanche of images is being unleashed through the audio-visual and print media to persuade foreign investors that the slide is not unstoppable. Malaysia and Thailand have taken the lead in this direction with strong campaigns claiming that they were well on the road to recovery.

Vajpayee against foreign firms forming wholly-owned subsidiaries
The Bhartiya Janata Party's (BJP) prime ministerial candidate, AB Vajpayee, has said that the country needs to adopt a cautious approach to liberalisation. Addressing an election gathering in Nagpur, Vajpayee said that the BJP did not favour the formation of wholly-owned subsidiaries by foreign companies. He claimed that indiscriminate imports and mindless globalisation had left the local industry hamstrung.
Colour TVs slash prices in a bid to stay in the black
Colour television manufacturers -- domestic as well as multinational -- are gearing up to breach all price barriers this year. Prices are expected to tumble to all-time lows within all segments of screen sizes, but more so in the 20-inch and 21-inch categories as companies announce price cuts while introducing "economy" models targeted at the semi-urban consumers.

Sonia sharpens attack to take on communal forces
Congress star campaigner Sonia Gandhi on Saturday sharpened her attacks against communal forces for dividing the country on the basis of religion, caste and creed and urged the people not to fall prey to such forces. Speaking at a mammoth rally in Buldhan, Maharashtra, Sonia alleged that these forces were fostering hatred among people and called upon them to vote for the Congress for a stable government and communal harmony.

Economic crisis keeps experts on toes
The Asian economic crisis has officials around the world scrambling to come up with new ways to stabilise the region's faltering currencies and tailor the approach of the IMF and World Bank, experts said on Friday. Most Southeast Asian countries, weary of huge sell-offs in their currencies, are mulling over a proposal to peg exchange rates to a basket of regional currencies, in a bid to effect an economic revival.
