Videocon signs PPA with TNEB: The Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) recently signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with the Videocon group which is putting up the North Madras thermal power plant Stage II at Ennore near Madras with a capacity of 1050 mw. TNEB chairman Om Kumar said negotiations took a long time because the TN government's interest was to negotiate for "cheap power" and get the best tariff. Although the TNEB chairman was reluctant to mention the tariff, it is learnt that the agreed tariff is Rs 2.80 per unit for the first 15 years and extendable to another 15 years by mutual consent. There is a provision for revising the tariff also once the company brings about reductions in its loan programme.VSNL joins World Partners Association: Videsh Sanchar Nigam Ltd (VSNL) on Thursday joined World Partners Association (WPA) to provide "world source" services to its customers. World source services are a portfolio of reliable, multilateral voice and data services and VSNL hasalready begun the necessary upgradation in required infrastructure, according to a release. WPA supports the services of its members by certifying capabilities and as the financial, operational, technical and software clearing house for all "world source" services.
NTPC bags ranking: The National Thermal Power Company (NTPC) has been ranked as the ninth highest electricity generating company in the world. In a study conducted by the marketline international of UK on the basis of 1996 data of the major power generating companies world over, National Thermal Power Company generated 93155 million units of electricity. ESKOM of South Africa ranked number one in highest generation above 163 billion units. As per the study, NTPC is the third most efficient generating companies among the the top ten highest generating companies in the world. Only two companies, AEP of the USA and KEPCO of South Korea are above National Thermal Power Company in this parameter.
NHPC to undertake projects in Bihar:National Hydroelectric Power Coporation (NHPC) has been entrusted execution of four small projects in Bihar. As per a National Hydroelectric Power Coporation release, in a communication addressed to the Union power ministry, the Bihar government has suggested that National Hydroelectric Power Corporation should take up these projects which range from 0.80 MW to 2 MWs and are based on Gandak Canal. Detailed Project Reports for the same have already been forwarded by the state government to NHPC.
TCS hopes to treble sales: Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) hopes to treble the sales of its popular accounting software EX during the next two years. "We have sold about 60,000 copies during the last five years. With the launch of the EX Next Generation (EXNGN), we hope to treble this in two years," country manager, Cyrus Shroff announced at a press conference on Tuesday. "One factor which will help Tata Consultancy Services achieve this is the rock bottom pricing."the company country manager said.
