CHENNAI, January 17: Adidas India Trading Pvt Ltd plans to set up 12 exclusive outlets in the mega-store category and an increasing number of exclusive retail outlets in the major cities and towns of India. With this new marketing channel, the company is targeting a customer base of about one million in the next two years, Adidas India managing director Christoph Holland said.

Speaking to the media here on Saturday at the opening of two mega-stores in the city, Holland said the company chose the mega-store concept to showcase its entire range of products and provide consumers with a one-stop-shop for a complete range of sports accessories like shoes, travel kits and apparel.

He also said the mega stores or `image stores', as he termed them, would be restricted to the major cities like the four metros and Bangalore and Hyderabad, while exclusive outlets would be set up in other cities as well. The outlets would be franchised, while for the mega-stores, the options have been kept open. The stores in Chennaiand Bangalore are company-owned.
