BSES to set up 230MW plant in Andhra Pradesh

MUMBAI, January 4: BSES Ltd says it plans to set up a 230 megawatt power plant in Andhra Pradesh state. "We have signed an agreement with Southern Engineering Works (SEW) for a 230 megawatt combined-cycle power station near Kakinada in Andhra Pradesh," chairman and managing director RV Shahi said.The new venture will be called BSES-SEW Andhra Power Ltd, he said. "It would be a subsidiary of BSES with BSES having 70 per cent equity and SEW having 30 per cent," Shahi added.The BSES chairman did not give more details on the project. He forecast electricity generation capacity addition of2,000 megawatt and acquisition of at least three electricity distribution networks under BSES's corporate plan in the next five years. In 1998, the firm expects to commission a 160 megawatt combined cycle power plant in southern Kerala state in which BSES will hold 80 per cent equity and the state government 20 per cent. Construction work will start on a 160 megawatt plant inwestern Gujarat and a 250 megawatt plant in
southern Tamil Nadu where the respective state governments are partners, Shahi said. "BSES will also commence work on a 495 megawatt plant at Palghar in western Maharashtra where only the final clearance from the state government is yet to be received," he said. BSES currently generates around 500 megawatt of power at Dahanu in western Maharashtra state and distributes it to commercial and residential consumers in Mumbai city. "We are going to bid for distribution of power in Jodhpurand Alwar areas in western Rajasthan state, which is being privatised by the state government," he added.
