Maharashtra govt. plans to set up auto park at Talegaon

MUMBAI, January 4: The Maharashtra government plans to set up an automobile park on 500 acres of land at Talegaon in Pune district on lines of Andhra Pradesh, Chennai and Uttar Pradesh.Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) has been asked to prepare a model plan for the purpose. Government sources said such a park was needed as several automobile projects were coming in Ranjangaon near Pune. Italian major Fiat has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the state government for a Rs 1,000-crore car project at Ranjangaon. Escorts has also signed a joint venture with Italian giant Kararo for a Rs 350-crore project there. Implmentation of the proposed park will kick off during the ensuing elections, sources added. They said it would mainly house auto-component and ancilliary units. The government will offer infrastructurural facilities like roads, water, power and telecommunication. Fiscal incentives in the form of sales tax and octroi exemption, concession for captive-power
generation and relaxation in electricity duty will be offered. The government has offered a host of concessions to Fiat and German car-maker Volkwagen. Automotive Component Manufacturers Association of India (ACMA) secretary V Shankaran has welcomed the state government's move. There is a tremendous growth prospect for automobile and ancilliary sectors in the state, he added.Andhra Pradesh has announced the establishment of a 120-acre "auto ancilliary and allied industries park" to be located in Nellore district. The state government has offered land at Rs 115 per square meter. Shankaran says ACMA members will be entitlted to get the land at a discount of Rs 100 per square meter. The Andhra Pradesh government has offered sales tax exemption/deferment for 7/14 years up to 135 per cent of fixed-capital investment, concessions for captive-power generation, sales tax of four per cent on diesel used for it, 15 per cent state investment subsidy on capital investment and five per cent additional investment
subsidy on the completion of 50 per cent occupancy ratio in the estate. The government has also given 25 per cent rebate on power bills for three years and special incentives for small- scale units to be set up by scheduled caste/scheduled tribe entrepreneurs. Small Industries Development Corporation (Sidco) of Tamil Nadu has acquired 100 acres for setting up an auto-component park in view of green-field projects by Ford and Hyundai. Sidco has put the land price at Rs 15 lakh per acre and plans to give it on lease for 99 years. The auto-ancilliary park in Greater Noida will be part of an integrated industrial township on 10,000 hectares by the Uttar Pradeh government undertaking, Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority. The body has offered a single-window clearance, trade-tax incentives, trade-tax exemption up to 200 per cent of the capital invested in the project.
