Legislative council elections to be held today

MUMBAI, December 28: The election will be held in seven local bodies tomorrow to elect eight MLCs. There are nine seats vacant to be filled from the local bodies. However, Ramkrishna More, (Congress) was unanimously elected to the legislative council from Pune local constituency. The remaining eight local bodies where the elections are going to be held are Mumbai (two seats), Ahmednagar, Akola-Buldana, Nagpur, Solapur, Dhule and Kolhapur (one). The Shiv Sena BJP alliance has fielded seven candidates in eight seats. The alliance did not not field any candidate from Kolhapur constituency. The candidates of the Shiv Sena include education minister Sudhir Joshi, director of the Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) Kanhayalal Gidwani, Dr Bharat Dhokne from Ahmednagar, Rajendra Patni from Akola-Buldana.
