Banks, FIs race for Birla-AT&T syndicated loan

[Details] The roadshow for $283-million Birla-AT&T syndicated loan was held in Mumbai yesterday. Institutions and banks in the roadshow included the Industrial Credit and Investment Corporation of India, Industrial Development Bank of India, State Bank of India and Bank of India. Among the global investment banks, Union Bank of Switzerland and Merril Lynch evinced interest.

Madras Cements to kick off green field project in July

[Details] Madras Cements, the flagship of the Ramco group, is likely to begin work on a new greenfield 0.5 million tonnes per annum cement unit in Tamil Nadu from July this year. This will take the company's installed capacity to 3.5 million tonnes.

VSNL net profit up 23% to Rs 503 crore

[Details] Videsh Sanchar Nigam Ltd has recorded a 23% increase in net profit to Rs 503 crore for the year ended March 31, 1997, as against Rs 408 crore last year. The total revenue grew 17% at Rs 5,262 crore as against Rs 4,473 crore in the previous year.
