movie released at 1300 screens in Andhra Pradesh, and garnered over Rs. 8 crore on its opening day itself. “Due to the political unrest, Andhra Pradesh has had no new releases since a couple of weeks. So when Thoofan released, people welcomed it,” says Acharya.
While Shuddh... did good business on its opening day, it is to be seen if it sustains in its second week, considering, the week sees three new releases - Horror Story, Grand Masti and John Day.
* At Cinemax India, previous releases like Madras Cafewhich is in its third week, is still doing well. The film has been getting 40 per cent occupancy in its evening shows. Whereas Satyagraha, in its second week, has received an average occupancy of 30 per cent at the BO, all over Cinemax India. When asked about the pan India picture, trade analyst Vinod Mirani said, “Both Satyagraha and Madras... are almost exhausted from theatres.”
* Last week, saw the release of Vin Diesel-starrer Riddick. The movie though, on its opening day, received only an average response. Whereas horror flick The Conjuring, which is now in its fifth week is still getting a good reception from the audience.

Screen was right when we predicted that the youth would give Zanjeer a miss, and patronise Shuddh Desi Romance instead. In fact, as per trade analyst Amod Mehra, SDR has the potential of crossing the benchmark created by Aashiqui 2, which was a big hit amongst the young crowd. While Screen stated that the Priyanka Chopra- Ramcharan-starrer would receive an average opening, the film garnered a below average response from the audience. It remains to be seen whether Zanjeer picks up in its second week.
