Yeduguri Sandinti Rajasekhara Reddy, popularly known as Tiger of Kadapa, has finally achieved his life’s ambition of becoming the chief minister of Andhra Pradesh.

A penchant opponent of Chandrababu Naidu (both are from Rayalaseema region and had joined politics together), Mr Reddy was unanimously elected as the leader of Congress legislature party. His name was proposed by APCC president D Srinivas and seconded by former minister and senior-most Congress leader Koneru Ranga Rao. AICC observer and in-charge of AP affairs Ghulam Nabi Azad after consulting Sonia Gandhi announced Dr Reddy’s name as the choice of Congress president.

CLP spokesman K Suresh Reddy told newsmen that Mr Reddy will be sworn in as chief minister at a public ceremony on Wednesday.

Mr Reddy told the CLP that his government will be transparent and introduce people-friendly measures. “I will not blindly remove all measures of predecessors but I will ensure that anti-commonman policies do not find a place in the administration.”

He further said, “I will make Andhra Pradesh both investor friendly and employment oriented. I will not make empty promises and use high blitz publicity but will try my best to implement all the promises we have made during the poll campaigns.”

According to party sources, the new government will convene the House in the next 10 to 15 days to pass the annual budget for 2004-05.

TRS (Telengana Rashtra Samity) leader K Chandrasekhar Rao, a crucial player in the next government, is leaving for Delhi to attend smaller states forum meeting convened by Ajit Singh and Mr Paswan.

Mr Rao is said to have opposed the idea of joining the Congress government. “We will not join the government, unless Congress commits for separate Telangana state,” a senior TRS leader said.
